Compound Movements

What on Earth are these exercises called compound movements?

Compound movements involve multiple joints at the same time, promote muscle density and muscle strength, good movements for beginners and advanced people and they even promote hormonal regulation. There is a ‘Golden Five’ movements for compound movements. These include: squats, deadlifts, pull-ups, bench press and overhead press. In a squat the main muscles used are the quadriceps, hamstring and the glutes. Deadlift, which works the glutes, hamstring and the quads. The joints used are hip, knee, and ankle. Pull-ups which use the latissimus dorsi, trapezius, bicep and deltoids. Joints used in this movement are shoulder, elbow and wrist. Bench press, which uses the pectoral major and minor the tricep and the anterior deltoid. The overhead press which uses deltoids, abdominals, obliques and triceps. Compound movements are good because they help you perform
better inside and outside of the gym, creating muscle function, muscle synergy and promoting hormonal health.
