20 Unspoken Gym Etiquette Rules Every Ora 24/7 Gym Member Should Know

At Ora 24/7 Gym Belmont or Alkimos, we’re more than just a place to work out we’re a community. Our members come from all walks of life: beginners taking their first step, experienced lifters chasing PBs, and people who simply want to feel better, move better, and live better.

We have clear rules posted on our walls, but there’s also an unspoken understanding among members, a kind of silent agreement that keeps the space safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone. This is what we call unspoken gym etiquette.

Here are the 20 key courtesies every member should know.

1. Wipe Down Equipment After Use

If you’ve worked up a sweat (and we hope you do!), take a moment to wipe the bench, machine, or mat. It’s about hygiene and basic respect.

2. Return Weights to the Rack

If you use it, put it back. It keeps the space tidy and prevents anyone from tripping over stray dumbbells or plates.

3. Share Equipment in Busy Times

During peak hours, let others “work in” between your sets. It keeps things moving and shows consideration. Luckily, we are so big and well-equipped there is NO wait times

4. Bring a Clean Towel Every Time

It’s a small thing that makes a big difference to hygiene, especially in a 24/7 gym.

5. Respect Training Space

Be aware of where others are lifting or moving. A safe workout needs enough room to avoid collisions.

6. Limit Phone Time

A quick track change? Sure. Scrolling Instagram while sitting on a machine someone’s waiting for? That’s a no.

7. Keep Noise Manageable

We all get pumped during a heavy lift, but constant shouting or banging weights can distract or annoy others.

8. Lower Weights With Control

Dropping weights damages equipment and can startle people. Only drop them in designated lifting zones. Do not ego lift, commercial equipment can be expensive and if you damage a piece of equipment that means someone else can not use it.

9. Ask Before Using Someone’s Equipment

If someone’s mid-set, a quick “How many left?” goes a long way. Don’t be rude about it and do not interrupt mid set as everyone has exactly the same right and access to the equipment as you

10. Respect Cardio Time Limits

If the gym’s busy and there’s a limit, stick to it so everyone gets a fair go.

11. Keep the Floor Clear and Clean

Bottles, bags, and rubbish belong off the workout floor to avoid hazards. Pick up after yourself our trainers are not your personal cleaners so show some self-respect check your area is clean

12. Personal Hygiene Matters

Sweating is fine it’s part of the deal. But using deodorant beforehand is appreciated by everyone around you. Also ensure to use a towel, wash your gym clothes and shower

13. Hold Back on Unsolicited Advice or Unsolicited Camera Use

Unless someone asks, avoid jumping in to correct form or offer tips. People train differently and at their own pace. AND do not film anyone else to make fun of them (just don’t)

14. Share High-Demand Equipment

Be mindful of others waiting, especially for popular machines and benches.

15. Respect Headphone Zones

Headphones usually mean “I’m focused” interrupt only if necessary. Remember, for some the gym is their only alone time.

16. Don’t Block the Mirrors or The Equipment

Many members rely on mirrors to check form. Stay clear if they’re mid-lift. This also goes for using equipment that it’s not intended for ie. Doing bicep curls in the squat racks

17. Manage Sweat Between Stations

If you’re soaked after cardio, grab your towel before moving to the weights or even bring a spare shirt if you know your going to sweat it out

18. Avoid Multi-Machine Setups at Peak Times

Save big circuits for quieter hours so others can access equipment.

19. Keep Bags and Gear Stored

Loose gear is a trip hazard. Use lockers or designated areas.

20. Be a Friendly Face

Even a quick smile or “hi” helps keep the atmosphere welcoming. our Ora community is loyal, caring and focused so be a part of the community.
